From the very beginning, our roots trace back to Local 222 of the International Jewelry Workers Union. Local 222 dates back to the early turn of the century.
In the early 1950’s, Local 222 left the International Jewelry workers and the International Production Service and Sales Employee Union (IPSSEU) was founded. IPSSEU quickly became the largest independent organization in the NYC Tri State area with ten Local Unions representing nearly 20,000 Members in various different industries.
The Local numbers were 18, 21, 42, 106, 222, 422, 517, 719, 745 & 815
In the mid 1970’s, IPSSEU granted charter to Local 300 of the Cosmetic and Novelties Workers Union, a Local that dates back to the early 1930’s, and represented 7,000 cosmetic workers in the NYC Tri State area.
In 1982, IPSSEU became the Production Service and Sales District Council (PSSDC) and affiliated with the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union (HERE). That affiliation terminated in 1994 and the PSSDC maintained its status of Independence until February of 1998.
In February of 1998, the PSSDC and its Locals affiliated with the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW). At the time of affiliation, the PSSDC maintained five Local Unions. Between 1998 and 2009, the Locals merged from five to two. Effective March 2012, the PSSDC and its two remaining Locals, merged to become Local 312. Today, we are one Local Union affiliated with the UFCW representing workers in various different industries throughout the NY / NJ Tri State area.
